This is the opinion of one of the ops I work for-

Just days after announcing healthy profits, Arch Coal Inc. said it was cutting back operations at its Black Thunder mine in the Powder River Basin of northeast Wyoming.

"We just don't feel like we're getting sufficient return on our investment in the PRB right now," Arch spokeswoman Kim Link said Wednesday. "The pricing levels just aren't where we want them to be."

The St. Louis-based company is idling one of its five draglines and one of its 13 shovels at the Black Thunder mine, Link said. Draglines remove overburden so shovels can dig out the coal.

Link said the action will not affect any of the more than 1,000 workers at the mine. Workers on the dragline and shovel will be assigned other duties, such as maintenance or reclamation, she said.

Powder River coal is not the quality of the stuff around here.
